Description

The world’s most famous travelling reporter learns the secret of the Unicorn. When Tintin stumbles across a model ship at the Old Street Market, he buys it as a gift for his friend Captain Haddock. But this isn’t just any old model ship … it’s the Unicorn. Built by one of Haddock’s ancestors it holds a clue to finding the treasure of a notorious pirate. In "The Secret of the Unicorn," Hergé invites readers on a thrilling adventure steeped in mystery, history, and excitement. The story revolves around young reporter Tintin, his dog Snowy, and his friend Captain Haddock, who discover a riddle left by Haddock's ancestor, the 17th-century Sir Francis Haddock, which could lead them to the hidden treasure of the pirate Red Rackham. To unravel the riddle, Tintin and Haddock must obtain three identical models of Sir Francis's ship, the Unicorn, but they discover that criminals are also after these model ships and are willing to kill in order to obtain them. The mystery begins when Tintin buys a marvelously detailed model ship at an outdoor market. Two strangers immediately try to buy the ship from him, but Tintin refuses. After Snowy accidentally breaks the ship's mast, a tiny parchment scroll is discovered hidden inside. Tintin and Haddock soon realize that this is one of three scrolls that, when combined, reveal the coordinates to the sunken Unicorn and its fabulous hoard of jewels. The quest leads them into conflict with the villainous Ivan Ivanovitch Sakharine and a gang of crooks, involving kidnappings, a chase to find the remaining models, and a deep dive into the journals of Sir Francis Haddock. This classic tale is the first part of a two-part adventure, followed by "Red Rackham’s Treasure," and remains one of the most beloved entries in the Adventures of Tintin series.
